Dislocated Workers

Workforce Investment Act (WIA)

The program offers a wide variety of reemployment services, including basic skills and career interest assessment, the development of an employment plan, counseling, retraining, out-of-area job search assistance, relocation assistance, supportive services, on-the-job training. Eligibility rules apply, contact your local workforce center.

Trade Act Program (TAA)

Trade Adjustment Act benefits assist workers who were laid off due to foreign competition. The program offers employment placement assistance, retraining, job search and relocation assistance, and a tax credit of up to 65% of the cost of private, qualified health insurance.

A Petition for Trade Adjustment Assistance may be filled out and filed by a group of at least three workers, a union, or other authorized representative, workforce center operator or partner, or a company official. Once the U.S. Department of Labor has certified a group of workers, each worker in the group is eligible to apply for benefits. Worker Profiling

Unemployment Insurance claimants who are determined most in danger of exhausting their benefits are called in to the local workforce center for reemployment services.

Veterans

Employment and training services to eligible veterans with barriers to employment. Services are individually designed to overcome the identified barriers and lead to a job that meets the veteran's minimum economic needs. The Disabled Veteran Outreach Program provides intake and assessment, counseling/case management, testing, job- search assistance, job development, referral and placement, and case management to resolve employment problems. Youth

Workforce Investment Act (WIA)

Designed to prepare you for post-secondary education opportunities and employment, WIA services for youth have a strong focus on academic and occupational learning. The program offers a wide variety of employment services, including basic skills and interest assessment, the development of an employment plan, counseling, training, and supportive services. Eligibility rules apply, contact your local workforce center.

Job Corp

A free, residential, education, and job training program that helps 70,000 students find promising careers each year, and provides a support network that helps students find great jobs, transportation, housing, health care and other necessities after graduation. Eligibility for Job Corp is limited to individuals who are age 16 through 24; a U.S. citizen or legal resident; meet the program's income requirements; and who are ready to learn, work, and become a leader. Senior Texans

Experience Works

 Experience Works provides work-training opportunities for Texans over the age of 55 with a poverty level income.  Experience Works enrollees utilize their talents and skills in various occupational fields. They serve as library and teacher's aides, museum docents, senior center and nutrition aides, clerical workers, and provide job seeking assistance and information referral assistance.  They use the knowledge gained through their experience in health fields, numerous senior services such as outreach programs, telephone reassurance projects, and weatherization projects. And in whatever capacity they serve, they serve dependably and diligently to the benefit of their friends, neighbors, and communities. See Experience Works website for enrollment information.

Low-Income Adults

Choices

An employment program for TANF recipients that enables individuals to find and retain employment and upgrade skills in order to move up the economic ladder.

FS E&T

An employment program for Food Stamp recipients that help individuals who are required to participate to find employment and upgrade skills in order to move up the economic ladder.

Disabled

Texas Department of Assistive & Rehabilitative Services   

Texas Department of Assistive & Rehabilitative Services helps people with disabilities prepare for, find and keep jobs. Work related services are individualized and may include counseling, training, medical treatment, assistive devices, job placement assistance, and other services. Eligibility criteria for this program include: the presence of a physical, visual  or mental disability that results in a substantial impediment to employment, whether the individual is employable after receiving services, and whether services are required to achieve employment outcomes. Ex-Offenders

Project Re-integration of Offenders

Designed to reduce recidivism through employment, the project provides a link between education, training and employment during incarceration with employment, training and education after release. An individualized treatment plan is developed to identify a career path and to guide placement decisions. After release, ex-offenders are provided individualized workforce development services, including job preparation and job search assistance. However, the most important aspect of the program is employment as soon as possible. Project RIO staff ensure that potential employers are aware of and take advantage of special incentives for hiring releases. Project RIO staff is able to offer tax to employers for hiring ex-offenders, as well as free fidelity bonding services, making the employment of ex-offenders and adjudicated youth more attractive

Working Parents

Subsidized Child Care

Affordable child care is a major factor in the success of working parents. If you meet certain income and other guidelines, you may be able to receive help with up to 90% of your child care expenses.
